Slip-n-slide baptismal pool!

Yep, you read that right!  We (Brian, our host missionary; Gabe, his son; Shawn, Justin, Jenni, and I) played in the blow-up pool used to baptize 17 people in the morning service as a slip-n-slide after taking down the tent tonight.  I didn’t intend to get in, but the joy of being petite is that you don’t choose everything you do.  (Thanks, Shawn!)  It ended up being a lot of fun.

The service this morning was amazing on many different levels, and I don’t know even half of it.  It took around 3 hours, and felt like normal.  There was a really fun time of figuring out the worship songs they were singing in  Macedonian and then singing along in English, a sermon that was mostly translated (mostly because sometimes the pastor preaching got so excited that he cut off the translator), a baptismal service that went like this: talk a little, dunk the person, sing a round of “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus” complete with a jazz beat, and go on to the next one, and finally, communion (with really cheap, nasty wine).  The national church here split a few years ago, and people from both sides and towns all over Macedonia joined together for this service.

I’ve decided that the coolest things about missions trips are the coolest things about life following Jesus in general.  Missions trips allow a focused, new perspective on those things and draw my attention to them, but God’s faithfulness, graciousness, creativity, and goodness are just expressed in a different way in a different culture.  I feel so privileged and blessed to have seen the tip of the iceberg of His work in Macedonia this morning!

The internet place closes in 4 minutes, so I’d better go!  I hope your Sunday is just as cool!

Don’t you just LOVE slip-n-slides!!! It’s like the joy of a good slide combined with water. It almost makes a person feel kinda like an otter!
So tell me, Ang, just how would you know cheap nasty wine from good nasty wine anyway? I certainly could not tell the difference.
We’re looking forward to hearing your next update! Love you!
