Today’s verse in my verse-a-day calendar (kept in my car so that I’ll actually flip it daily!) was Psalm 90:14:
Oh satisfy us early with Your mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
My Bible software says that Moses wrote it, and the beginning of the psalm (Oh Lord, You have been our dwelling place for all generations…) indicates that it probably wasn’t written when Moses was a small child.
That said, I think it’s a really fun* prayer to pray for kids. What grace to be satisfied with the mercy (kindness and reproof) of God early in life, that we may shout for joy for the rest of our lives! I enjoyed praying it for the kids I know and thinking about what God would do in their lives. Imagine the kids you know growing up glad for the mercy of God, and then imagine what the impact on our world would be. It’s enough to make me want to pray for them more!
The anticipation is a little like Christmas morning…
* My former roommate, Heather, would often say that various aspects of her relationship with God were fun. At first, I thought she was being sarcastic, since she would us it to refer to things that I would not consider to be “fun.” However, her life and her relationship with God continue to live out the joy she experiences in every aspect, and I have taken to using the term as well. There’s a lot of delight in following Jesus! (P.S. Happy Birthday, Heather!)
